The Exclusion Criteria

We’re really glad you’d like to register as a stem cell donor. Please review the following list carefully. If any of the items apply to you, unfortunately you will not be eligible to donate stem cells:

e.g., cardiac arrhythmias requiring treatment, coronary artery disease, poorly controlled high blood pressure, bypass surgery, heart attack

e.g., deep vein thrombosis, blood clotting disorders, e.g., hemophilia A (hemophilia), warfarin therapy, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia, spherocytosis

e.g., severe asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary embolism

e.g., glomerulonephritis, renal insufficiency

Not every allergy automatically disqualifies you from donating blood stem cells. For example, allergies to food, animal dander, pollen, and dust mites do not disqualify you. However, if you have ever experienced anaphylactic shock, your eligibility to donate must be assessed. In this case, please contact us before registering.

e.g., hepatitis C or unresolved hepatitis B, HIV infection, malaria

even after successful treatment and regardless of when the disease occurred
The only exception: basal cell carcinomas and cervical cancer in situ following complete removal and unremarkable follow-up examinations

e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue diseases (e.g., scleroderma), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, Addison’s disease, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren’s syndrome, vasculitis

e.g., severe depression requiring treatment, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, epilepsy, psychoses, multiple sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease

e.g., diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, Graves’ disease. Hypothyroidism is not a criterion for exclusion.

e.g., kidney, liver, heart, skin, cornea, meninges

e.g., medications, alcohol, intravenous drug use

Individuals whose sexual behavior or living conditions pose a significantly higher risk of transmission of serious bloodborne infectious diseases (such as hepatitis B and C or HIV) than that of the general population.

If you are already registered in a stem cell donor registry, please do not get typed a second time! This causes confusion and additional costs that should be avoided. Thank you very much!

Please register with our stem cell donor registry only if you plan to live in Germany long-term. If you intend to move abroad in the foreseeable future, please register in the country where you will be living.
